Boca is so consistent at getting second places, there may be a hope for the rest of us at state after all!! ;)

Jokes aside, good job!

Boca High manages to break their 2nd-place streak at SOUP, placing 6th amongst some quality National teams. Congratulations to the team, and especially to all the Seniors who competed at their last invitational.

There goes my hope for 1st place at state -unless we call this one a fluke. So we shall. I am still going with my scenario where Boca will get 2nd at regional, state and national :)

As always, good gob! Beating Harriton and whole bunch of National caliber teams is no easy feat.

I think the second at regional and state is a fair conclusion, granted you are saying that their B team gets second. They had some quality performances at SOUP (i.e. 4th Forensics, 7th Water, 8th Mission, 12th Thermo, etc.) that could easily call for a 1-2 sweep at both competitions. Boca did it a few years ago, but Archimedian and OSS both look solid this year and could supplant Boca at both tournaments. This Saturday will say a lot about how strong Archimedian is as they go against two much-improved Boca teams compared to one year ago.
Barring a miserable performance, I feel Boca has a fairly high likelyhood of reclaiming both the regional and state crown from Archimedian.

I agree. Both Boca team 1 and 2 look very strong this year...

However, I feel like the regional tournament may not provide a quality tournament enough to properly distinguish Boca and Archimedian.
Regional tournament can have 1) Terrible Tests 2) Terrible Supervisors 3) Terrible Facility...

I don't know the conditions of your guys regional, but at our regional we had to do titration in terms of grams for chem lab...
Also, the test was all stoichiometry. No acids and base nor physical property questions were asked.
The test supervisor clearly didn't understand the rules nor understood how to design a regional test.

For protein modeling, they canceled the onsite...

That being said, I feel like Boca has proved to be the top competitor in Florida and is expected to take the crown at state tournament.

Good luck at regionals this saturday!

Just to be clear, the premise of my comment was "Boca always gets 2nd place this year, so the science and data trends demand that they keep doing that, and anything against this undeniable logic, like SOUP, shall be discarded as science is all about cherry-picking the data"

At this point, it would be foolish to suggest any other Florida team being close to Boca. But, it would also be foolish to assume that they already bagged the first place in either regional or state, as best teams don't always win. Here is a serious prediction: Boca is more likely to lose 1st place at regional than at state, especially if Cardinal Gibbons does not bring its A game. I have no doubt Boca will get the most medals but may not get separation from Archimedean and an unlucky Fermi/WIDI or a bombed building event or any ruined event might be enough for Archimedean. At state, a miracle or two is needed. But, they sometimes happen.

Although we definitely feel good about how we've been doing this year, we still absolutely recognize that we're going to face tough competition at both regionals and states. Archimedian is still a very competitive team and by no means is anything guaranteed, especially with other quality teams such as Cardinal Gibbons coming as well. Like jaah5211 said, there is also the consideration that regional tests are often not the most well written, or well run in the case of builds. We'll see how things turn out this Saturday, and hope everyone else is looking forward to competing as much as we are!

My comment about how Boca has a good shot at 1st and 2nd was not anything against both Archimedian, Cardinal Gibbons, or OSS. They all have strong teams and have the possibility to claim the regional and state championship. I also noted before how the tests at regionals and states are almost never as quality as invites:
will926ok3645 wrote:Regional and State Championships almost never have quality tests. With a new director, FAU Regionals may not be the same quality as before
The only point I was trying to bring up was the possibility that the streak of Boca getting second could continue while they still get first, as their B team has the talent and ability to place second at both regionals and states. Everyone keeps talking about Boca A /Archimedian A /Cardinal Gibbons A /OSS A as the top 4 teams in the state, but Boca or Archimedian could easily have two teams place in the top 3.

I'm not sure about other schools, but yes Boca does have a huge chance.

I believe they did so in 2015? (I think Boca A and B got first and second)
