Nats2019 wrote:Hi everyone! This account will be used as the official tournament account for the 2019 National Tournament at Cornell University!

There are a lot of details about the tournament that are at 90-95% completion right now, so expect a lot more updates in the coming week or two! As many of you just saw, we posted the trial events for the tournament (schedule will follow in the coming days).

Feel free to throw questions/comments/concerns at us through this forum! We look forward to seeing everyone at Cornell in June!
Like last year nats @Colorado, will we get individual team homerooms, or will we have to share with another team?

In addition to that, how will "Oldies but Goodies" events work?

Thanks so much!
We are actively reserving the rooms that will be used as homerooms and we're going to send out a little "welcome form" where we'll ask coaches not only if they want a home room, but also if they prefer/want to share a room with a specific team (schools from the same district might do this to only have one chaperone in the room at all times instead of two for two separate rooms). I expect that between teams not wanting a room and teams purposely sharing one, we should be set as far as the number of homerooms we have. Should have a more final handle on this in early-April.
Will we have a choice to room with another team or have a room for ourselves?
If not, does the team we room with have to be from the same state or division?

Why would you want to room with another team? What school would you have in mind?

I never said I wanted to room with another team, I asked if we have a choice. Please don't take my words out of context.

Also, there's nothing wrong with rooming with another team. I get the competitiveness and whatever, but most teams are friendly so I don't have a problem with it. Plus, it's nats, so it's not like they have time to copy ideas or designs lol.

As for what schools I have in mind, I don't know. For all I know, we could be rooming with High School South, which is in the same school district as us. This is obviously up to our coach, but I'm not going to state my preference either. I just have a feeling I'm going to get flamed..

Sorry, didn't read too carefully. Anyways, I would agree that rooming with another team is actually not as bad as it sounds, except for the cramped part of it. Being squished into the same team homeroom as Barrington High School, a rival RI team, was actually quite enjoyable. We got to know each other much better, and this helped dissolve much of the previous animosity between our district science olympiad teams. The only problem I could foresee with copying designs would be boomi, since the rules are not likely to change much, if not at all, next year - but it shouldn't matter too much.

Why would you get flamed, just curious?

Flamed is the wrong word, sorry. I meant that it might be weird if I didn't pick a team that wanted to room with us or vice versa. I especially didn't want to offend anyone with my picks.

I have a few schools that i have in mind though, mostly from the NE.

We will get our own room if there are enough, otherwise, we may share a room with another team.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it says on Soinc that ornithology is a trial event for both B and C. Is this true?

Ornithology is not a trial. It's a featured trial on soinc for state tournaments and other invies, but not for nats.
nicholasmaurer wrote:The trial events have been posted. Science Bowl and Parasitology for Division B; Detector Building and Environmental Chemistry for Division C.
There's only 2 trials for each division, as quoted from the website:
"Trial Events
Science Quiz Bowl (Division B)
Parasitology (Division B)
Detector Building (Division C)
Environmental Chemistry (Division C)"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Oldies but Goodies" don't count as trials - they're fun events.
