I was not able to find a way to actually solve it, but I know it's theoretically possible to solve (I made the map using some mapping software, which is where I got the answers from). I probably should have made it worth more points though.poonicle wrote:If anyone knows how to solve this problem or can point me towards resources in solving this problem, I'd really appreciate it. Screenshots are from 2019 Princeton Geologic Mapping test; they have the tests + key publicly released on their website but no solutions. ^_^

Re: Geologic Mapping C
do you have any idea of where to begin to figure out how to solve it? i'd really appreciate it (and yeah it seems pretty difficult for the number of points it's worth)Unome wrote:I was not able to find a way to actually solve it, but I know it's theoretically possible to solve (I made the map using some mapping software, which is where I got the answers from).

Try setting up some equal-altitude outcrops I guess.poonicle wrote:do you have any idea of where to begin to figure out how to solve it? i'd really appreciate it (and yeah it seems pretty difficult for the number of points it's worth)Unome wrote:I was not able to find a way to actually solve it, but I know it's theoretically possible to solve (I made the map using some mapping software, which is where I got the answers from).

Re: Geologic Mapping C
Upon reflection, I think part of the issue might be that I couldn't find a scale for the map in the question, which made finding dip difficult.Unome wrote: Try setting up some equal-altitude outcrops I guess.

Re: Geologic Mapping C
The scale won't matter, I don't think (think about squishing or stretching the possibilities).poonicle wrote:Upon reflection, I think part of the issue might be that I couldn't find a scale for the map in the question, which made finding dip difficult.Unome wrote: Try setting up some equal-altitude outcrops I guess.

Re: Geologic Mapping C
Does anyone know the name of the diagrams that are boxes with lines around them to represent a cross section or something? It was on the socal test last year.

Wasn't this question answered in the socal thread?freed2003 wrote:Does anyone know the name of the diagrams that are boxes with lines around them to represent a cross section or something? It was on the socal test last year.
