Dang, how do they do that on their first year?Unome wrote:Div B teams that qualified earlier, off the top of my head:JVallurup47 wrote:Just think of wydowns growth. There is probably no team that has made it to nationals in their 3rd year competing in science olympiad.Unome wrote:
Springhouse (2nd year, 17th)
Sewickley (1st year, 39th; 2nd year, 13th)
Chippewa (1st year, 29th; 2nd year, 17th)
So while a 3rd year qualification is impressive, it's far from unprecedented.

Re: Unofficial Rankings B
My team has done well in Florida this year. I thought we would be in at least top 20 predictions. Rip

Florida teams traditionally do not do very well at nationals because despite a relatively high registration, Florida is not a very competitive state relatively.Killboe wrote:My team has dominated Florida this year. I thought we would be in at least top 20 predictions. Rip
Additionally just to be frank, you guys certainly did not "Dominate" Florida in any way. Yes, you guys placed 1st at your regional and states this year, but 2nd place at States was only 5 points behind (essentially negligible difference). Additionally, Archimedean Middle traditionally places ~30-40th place so there is no reason to think that you guys will perform significantly better (especially since this is your first year at nationals and you guys have no idea just how competitive it is).
To get an idea of what "dominate" means, Troy won their state tournament this year beating second place by ~100 points and has done this for over 2 decades.

Re: Unofficial Rankings B
I would not seriously consider a Div B team from Florida for top 20 at Nationals in their first year without sub-80 at the very least (and realistically, such a team scoring ~70 at states would more likely end up around 25th). I expect River City will be around 40th or so, possibly closer to 30th if they can avoid the usual post-states lull that newly-qualifying teams tend to face.windu34 wrote:Florida teams traditionally do not do very well at nationals because despite a relatively high registration, Florida is not a very competitive state relatively.Killboe wrote:My team has dominated Florida this year. Technically the team was formed in 2001, and we got 3rd in NJ.CMS AC wrote:Community: 1st year, 17th, 2nd year 8th, 3rd year 2nd, 4th year 1st.
2002-2005 btw
Edit:
2002-2005 was probably a lot easier though lol
So we went from no team to 1st in the nation in 5 years lol.

Didn't know that, actually. It wasn't in the wiki.Matholy wrote:Technically the team was formed in 2001, and we got 3rd in NJ.CMS AC wrote:Community: 1st year, 17th, 2nd year 8th, 3rd year 2nd, 4th year 1st.

Well, since NJSO was formed in 1993 (according to the historical tournaments page)... Lawrenceville MS and Northern Highlands HS both went during their first year.Matholy wrote:Technically the team was formed in 2001, and we got 3rd in NJ.CMS AC wrote:Community: 1st year, 17th, 2nd year 8th, 3rd year 2nd, 4th year 1st.

Okay, I just double checked the scioly national results and for some reason, I thought that the team numbers were their placements and I thought Archimedean got 21st. So yeah we won't get top 25 most likely. But, our team got 157 points and Archimedean got like 163
