True that. Not a lot of invys happen in Indiana and the ones that do are usually in the northern corners/borders of the state. Some end up going to neighboring states instead. This is why I’ve thought about starting an invy at Purdue WL but I know we unfortunately don’t have the manpower to run one in addition to a regional
The other issue is teams. I think an invitational could be run in Indianapolis, there is just concern that the number of teams won't show up like they do for an Ohio/Northern Indiana invite.

That being said, good luck to all the state competitors. You've all earned your spot. Here's hoping for an intense competition on both the B and C level, rather than one team running away with it.

At one time, IUPUI hosted Science Olympiad Events, but about two years ago they got out of S.O. all together. I would agree with you though, if there was an Invitational in the Indianapolis area, I think folks would go.

You tend to see the Invites in the Northern 1/3 of the state because the majority of the teams by far are in the Northern 1/3 of the state, so there are just better odds if a team was going to have an Invite, it would be up there. I made a map one time placing where all the teams in the state are located when we were looking to try to expand. By far most of our teams are in the North, with a much smaller distribution in Central and Southern Indiana. As a state, more Invitationals in the Central/Southern part of the state would go a long way towards helping recruit those schools.

We agree. Perhaps at state, a poll of how many schools would go to an invitational in Indianapolis would be helpful, and then like Ohio, do it at one of the schools.

Carmel has thought about holding an invitational in Central Indiana, perhaps in conjunction with other Central Indiana teams; however, in the past, we struggled with logistics and date. With Whiting in early December and Manchester in early January, Northridge/Lake Central in late January, Centerville in early February, and Regionals throughout February, there's not a really good date. The number of invites in Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois makes finding a date even harder. But I think more people discussing an invite for Central Indiana would provide (enough?) impetus to make it happen.

I mean when I was thinking about a possible Purdue WL Invite (to run in addition to a regional, although not sure it's compelling enough yet to warrant one and we're not terribly good at mobilizing student volunteers), I was thinking more along the lines of holding it before Thanksgiving, like CyFalls and UTA Invitationals in TX

The weekend I would shoot for would be the 2nd weekend in Dec. It is still far enough away from the Holiday that folks would go, but not in conflict with another Invite. We need our Invites to spread out more in terms of dates as to give more teams more chances to participate.

East Chicago Central used to hold an Invite every year the 2nd week of Dec, and it was always well attended.

What would be your opinion of an invitational happening in Indiana before thanksgiving? TX has a couple invites that happen this early, and registration for such competitions always fill up really quickly.

Y'all aren't thinking big enough. Georgia had two invitationals in October this year :P

In seriousness, I do think October is too early for an invitational. Although based on this year, there's still some space in December and January, like Jan 6 and Dec 16.

Maybe? That is really early in the season. With Official Rules not coming out till the first week of Sept, that really only give 2 1/2 months. It would be tough for builds to get around that fast. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Texas not do a fair number of the building events? That would probably make a mid Nov Invitational easier to prep for.
