I agree.At times probes are near instant and are useful in time-sensitive situations.Also, thermometers are not always constant and can be easily influenced so they are not as reliable.

I don't think it's useless; I just feel that for the amount of points you get, it's really not worth it. In fact, some teams have the strategy of making a device that barely insulates at all and maxing out on IWB.

Why does lowering the heat retention score help those devices?

I realize that in some situations you lose more points than you gain, but I’ve tested with and without the ice bonus and for certain situations you definitely gain way more points than you lose. I’ve found some cases where you lose 2 points off heat retention but gain 5 from the 50mls. And doesn’t affect prediction score if you measure the water temperature.

Its just that ice water can be very unpredictable which will lower your heat retention score and prediction score. For example, the temperature of the ice water is not always 0 degrees celsius, which can mess up your predictions. Its just not worth the amount of points it gives.

Like I said, you can measure the initial temperature of the water after you add the ice water to your beaker, which makes prediction no less accurate. Also, while it does lower your heat retention score the 5 points you gain from 50ml of ice water can often make up for the difference. It’s not helpful always, but it is helpful sometimes.

37.6 degrees, but even if your HRF is lower than other teams, you can still beat them.

Yea.^Btw my box at these numbers is at 39.7C
