qwerty24 wrote:Hey guys, can anyone help me? I have regionals tomorrow and one of the people in ornithology quit at the last minute ( :x ). I also just found out that the other person in this event hasn't studied or prepared at all. Is there anything that we can do to help us not get last place?

Thanks in advance.
Make sure you know how to use your field guide! Flip through it and get a feel for how it's organized, what kind of information is in it, what groups of birds are in what section, and stuff like that, so that you can identify birds the best you can. Being able to use your field guide properly is super important! Good luck!

I placed third in Ornithology today!!! Just as a note for the rest of you, birdcalls on our test were worth 20% of your overall score... Make sure you takle them!!! I suggest buying a IdentiFlyer, or getting your hands on a Pennsylvania Envirothon Bird Calls CD... Both are very useful...

This quiz is amazing, and you can customize the settings to fit what you wish to be tested on, it's the best one I found online, and definetly helped me at regionals.

I had regionals today, and the ornithology test was extremely difficult. I swear, we must of had half a minute to identify a bird off a powerpoint and answer 2 questions. Plus the birds we had to identify were the most obscure ones on the list, and the questions were completely random. There was a diagram of a feather where we had to label the parts (thank god I studied feathers) and a diagram of a duck with parts to label also. And on top of that, we forgot to print out our notes sheet before the competition. Fortunately I managed to scrape by with a third place medal... :| Not what I was hoping for, though. And my team got fifth overall. At least I got to states!

Sounds a lot like my test. Feather parts, bird diagram, and obscure birds. I swear, to answer them, we had to flip through the book until we saw something familiar. I know the random questions too. You might want to try writing down the questions on the test in case there's a little time to answer them. That way you can remember them.
