oh no wtf a powerpoint presentation?!?! =//// ive been preparing thinking its gonna be stationsss ughhhhsoobsession wrote:Okay. Just got back from States. Medaled in Ornith... though not that great.![]()
It was a PowerPoint presentation, 72 questions, 50 minutes.
It was all birds from my state which confused me because there is no State list.
We were tested on calls, videos were put on the test, match the silhouette of the bird to the bird, questions on occurances, bird anatomy, etc. There was also a question on what plants would you plant in your backyard to attract birds and how will they attract the birds? (Birds will nest there, eat there, etc.)
It was all multiple choice except for some short answer responses (common name, scientific name, etc.)
It was decently okay...

So we can put tabs in our books, and we can write in our books, but is it okay to write on the bird list?
sorry if this has already come up, but i didn't find it on the pages in the forum that i read....oh and i'm curious how other people study for the bird calls?

Okay thank you! Did anyone else have taxidermied (not sure that is the write verb, i guess the right verb is "stuffed") birds at their competitions? Were there a lot of timed things like power points and stations?

I had a couple of specimans that were modeled and "stuffed" at my stations. Everything was timed- 2 min. 45 sec. per station. It was a pretty easy test.Fuzzy Mint wrote:Okay thank you! There was both internal and external anatomy. The main problem was that they were all birds from my state and with no state birds list, we weren't quite sure what some of the multiple choices were. I mean... what's a Pine Siskin?junexia wrote:wow, 72 questions. thats more than twice as many as the test at my regionals. but since it's multiple choice, im assuming it shouldnt be that hard. were there any particular questions that were hard and you weren't sure about? and what type of questions did they ask about anatomy? external or internal?

I think the tiebreaker is really important now. There was a tie for 4th place, so that was important, basically you're given a bird made on photo shop (as in not real) and by its characteristics, you have to identify what habits it has, like if it feeds on nuts, etc. etc. a lot to do with coloration too.
I think also, that powerpoint would be easier, but it was timed pretty quickly.

I think the silhouettes may have been the ones we had worst trouble on...
