Re: New York 2009
I agree- it was kind of interesting to see if you could adapt, but I thought it was weird, because before the event, the supervisor came out and was asking people if they brought their North and South Dakota maps!!The Crab wrote:Did anyone think it kind of wrong to give a different road map than what we were told? Obviously, if you have good map skills, you can apply it to any road map, but why put in time getting to know one specific map only to find out when you get there that it wasn't the one you were being tested on. If they didn't want us to know the map, then they shouldn't tell you anything. Does anyone know why that happened?
That was last year's nationals story? That's not exactly fair that people who went to nationals had already taken that test, that gives the teams that went to nationals last year an unfair advantage. it was an interesting story though. and omg the scale for the student drawn map thing was so annoying! we didnt have time to go back and re-draw ours without that scale, so we had to just leave it. ugh! although the map was switched, i did think it was interesting to use a mapquest map as well. that threw in a new and different twist, however it was not that hard, considering mapquest is supposed to be easy for people to readsweetp wrote:i also thought that was very strange to be given a different map! we were very surprised to come in to a louisiana mississippi map...
we also thought it was strange that the writer reused a story (it was last year's nationals story). AND the fact that they had the scale for the student generated map wrong! We had to completely re-do it!

I deleted it, someone lese can put something in its place if they want. I wish PA did a shirt contest, it would be interesting to see who would win.

Re: New York 2009
If you think that's bad, last year at Nationals in Food Science, the question-and-answer portion was EXACTLY the same as the year before. Including the typos. My partner had done Food Sci the year before, and as we went up to the sup to ask about one question that made no sense (because of a typo), he said, "You know, I'm 99% sure I've asked about this exact typo before." After a while, he realized that the entire page had been copy-pasted from the previous year's event.emilyy18 wrote: That was last year's nationals story? Probably 60% of the teams who took that event had at least one person who had done the event the year before, which gave them a HUGE advantage. That section took us about a minute all together, for like 20 questions (but we came in 21st overall, probably because of the stupid iron determination lab station that we completely ran out of time on...).

Re: New York 2009
We really began playing this site up this year, as it's extremely helpful. Even if they haven't made an account, I know that every team member (on the actual team) has looked at this site at least once. I think that this site is great, and is beneficial to everyone. That's why tehre are many gelinas kids on teh sitefmtiger124 wrote:Phenylethylamine did u guys have like the whole Gelinas team join this site? i was looking at the group and it has a lot of members

Also, a lot of them have accounts even if they're not active (i.e. have never posted, just looked at the forums and maybe used our team forum a bit).
