It's just a preference of the local National Tournament site. Holding trial events on Friday is a relatively new thing too. In the past they were held on Saturday alongside the regular events. I suspect we'll return to that process next year at Wright State.

Ok; I thought it might be a site-specific thing, but after seeing it twice in a row in two states that I don't really associate with each other, I wasn't so sure.

They're combined; check the seating assignments

Hey, sharing is fun! Cheer for your fellow scioly-ers in the other division. Take the extra time during the other division's awards to lower your heart rate a couple beats per minute.

It seems there are only 16 seats for each team. 15 students and 1 coach. Where will parents, alternates, and other coaches sit? Would that be in general admission?

Yeah, I don't really see what the problem is with a combined B/C awards ceremony, especially at nationals. At some point, it's the culmination of everything you and your team has worked for this season, so it doesn't really seem like it lasting 30-45 minutes or so longer is really a bad thing. And last year when a few teammates and I stayed for the Division C awards ceremony, it was kind of redundant listening to the opening messages a second time.

Yeah, they'd just all be in the general spectator seating. (This is how it always goes at Michigan states, and it can get SOOOO hot in the MSU Auditorium if you're up there. I often joke that sitting up there my 7th grade year when I was an alternate is what inspired me to make sure I compete every year.)

Depending on how many alternates you have and what the seating is like (I'm assuming they're going to have folding chairs out on the floor), you could try having everyone squeeze into the 15 seats. This is what my team did in 2014 (we had only 17 people on our traveling team that year).
