There is one way to get electrical energy from carbon (combust it in an exothermic reaction, create steam, turn a magnet around a coil of wire and create an alternating current), but it can be stored in various and many forms, depending on the source. Could you specify which source of carbon you are discussing, or is this simply a general question?

CO2 is captured from industrial processes and then transported though pipes to some underground geological formation where they won't go back into the atmosphere.
