In most states and definitely at nationals it is definitely NOT random. We put a lot of time and thought into the scheduling of the events to try to avoid having similar events overlap (for example don't want the 'chemistry stars' on teams to have to choose between conflicting chemistry related events). It's never perfect, but there is a definite method to it.

In addition, I think states base off their State competition schedule off of Nationals.chalker wrote:ScienceOlympian wrote:I believe it is completely random.alwaysphonehome wrote:I'm just curious, but is there any specific way that states order their events? In my senior year, Fossils and Herpetology conflicted at every tournament. ID events are my specialty, and I had to give up Herpetology =(chalker wrote:ScienceOlympian wrote:I believe it is completely random.alwaysphonehome wrote:I'm just curious, but is there any specific way that states order their events? Though that's the only time I've seen that, I guess you guys learned your lesson and kept them from overlapping again.

this year, stars always conlicted with either meteo or shock, my two best events, so I never was able to compete, even though I made a cheat sheet, flash cards, and everythinggneissisnice wrote:In my senior year, Fossils and Herpetology conflicted at every tournament. Really? Wow. That must be a lot of work. Next time I shouldn't assume.chalker wrote:ScienceOlympian wrote:I believe it is completely random.alwaysphonehome wrote:I'm just curious, but is there any specific way that states order their events? Re: Science Olympiad 2013-2014
Since Nationals is less than a month away (which is when we have our rule committee meetings for next year), I thought I've throw out my standard offer soliciting suggestions / feedback / comments on the rules for next year. The tentative slate has been already posted in this thread, so if you have any suggestions for any of the events feel free to post them here or PM me privately. As always, I can't guarantee your ideas will be adopted, but at least they be heard and potentially discussed in the committee meetings.

Please for Sounds of Music change the Instrument 2 range to be higher than right now! Like G2 instead of C2. And extend the instrument ranges to 3 octaves.chalker wrote:Since Nationals is less than a month away (which is when we have our rule committee meetings for next year), I thought I've throw out my standard offer soliciting suggestions / feedback / comments on the rules for next year. Re: Science Olympiad 2013-2014
The only problem with a range that high would be that for some instruments it would be really time consuming to pull off. Especially marimbas and things requiring lots of time spent tuning each note.ScienceOlympian wrote:Please for Sounds of Music change the Instrument 2 range to be higher than right now! For me, bass notes are harder to make and sound worse on a marimba than higher notes.Toms_42 wrote:The only problem with a range that high would be that for some instruments it would be really time consuming to pull off.
