From my experience, the stuff like sponges and bryozoans dont get many questions. Ive only seen astraeospongia at one competition, and the only thing it asked was on sponges in generals (about the spicules, i think).

yay the final list is out
i basicly the same only a few minor changes one less genus in sponges, and some dinos got moved around but other then that no other changes

Huzzah! And to be honest, its very similar to the list we had 6 years ago (or less, I dont really feel like counting right now). Time to start editing the wiki, if I have time.

The list is good, but I would have liked it if they had focused it more on invertebrate paleontology, as that is the main type of specimens that will probably be used. I mean pictures are nice, but samples are great.

from my experience, most of the stations are on invertebrates. I only remember like 1 station on mammals that ive ever done. The dinosaurs usually get a station or 2, but definitely be prepared for trilobites, bivalves, and brachiopods. Those are very commonly asked.

I know that ,I did fossils too although I didn't compete. I also do amateur paleontology and have for about 4 years. I am saying that for those very reasons, that more attention will be paid to invertebrates.

how do they do dino? they cant just have a bone and expect use to knoe it right?

They could, but they wouldn't. If it is a dinosaur sample it will most likely be a picture of a skeleton.

from what i remember, we didnt even get pictures of the skeletons. We had pictures with the skin and stuff (like what the dinosaurs were thought to look like). And i think i remember a station on footprints, but im fairly certain we didnt have to identify the dinosaur by the prints.

oh ok
i was al worried that i would be given some random toe bone and be asked what dino this is hehe
but for the other things (like triolobites, sponges, ect) they normally give you a whole one right? like they wouldnt give you a fragment of a shell right?
