Then what does it mean to combine 2 different levers to have IMA over 5?

It means you have to use two levers in conjunction to get a system with an ideal mechanical advantage over 5. For example, if you use a first class lever with an IMA of 2 to apply force to a 3rd class lever of IMA 2.5, you will have a final/overall IMA of 5. Draw this out or build a sample system if you are having trouble visualizing it.

Electrical Question!

Post by PieGuyX9 »

My friend and I are designing a electrical system that will put all the motors in our machine into one circuit. There will be 4 battery packs, in total 12V. HOWEVER there will never be more than 6V being used the entire run (due to switches). Is this still following the rules? How and who should I contact?

Clarify what do you mean by "in total 12V"? Voltage of batteries is additive only when you put them in series. If you are saying that you add all the voltage of all individual batteries and the sum is 12 volts but there is no electrical node anywhere in your machine that goes over 10 volt, then I think you are fine.

Carefully read rule 3.a, I think the last 3 words in the sentence answer your question.

We had a fun question come up at practice. Would a wind up toy (such as a wind up car or other mechanical toy) be allowed for use if the winding was set before starting the system and a previous action allowed the wind up toy to move? Thanks. First year coaching, so I'll likely be here all day :D

You might also want to look closely at 3.c. You are limited in the number of motors you can have.

I think rule 3.f. can answer your question for you.
