good idea. i also suggest scioly expands its search engine vocab, if thats not the same as what you just said :)

For example, the "year" pages (2009, etc.) are only accessible via embedded links inside articles. Thus, a casual user of the site who wants to find old event lists might have a hard time finding such information if they weren't familiar with the layout of the site. Similarly, I fear that articles not relating specifically to events (such as Scioly History or Z's registration numbers table) will languish unread because they aren't linked in an easy-to-find place.

I would suggest creating a new master list, linked on the Wiki landing page, of all the miscellaneous articles that could be of interest. That way, people, especially more casual users of the site, could find desired information without having to just "stumble" upon it.

This is what building the web is all about. Have you ever had one of those sessions on Wikipedia where you can't stop clicking on links? That's how people will get to these pages, through other pages, and why the web is so important.

On the flip side, what sort of page is going to link to the Scioly History page? So, what you are suggesting is something like a "Featured Article"? That could have potential, but it would take some work to situate in a way that catches the eye without ruining the clean look of the main page.

Master list you say...something like Comprehensive Event Listing Wiki you mean? Which is located at the bottom of the Event Table...

No, that's not what I mean. I mean a list of miscellaneous pages, such as Scioly History or Z's registration numbers table, that aren't related to specific states or events and aren't linked anywhere easily accessible. The specific year pages such as 2009 could also be included in this list. As is stands, those pages are doomed to be unread because they can't be found very easily, especially by casual users of the site.

I don't really think a Miscellaneous page would be all the helpful. It's just that...Miscellaneous, It might just end up adding to the clutter. The Comprehensive event listing page covers much of what is on the 2009 page, not to mention that that table with all the year links is nicely located at the bottom of the page. The Scioly history page is on the FAQ page. As for the number of teams per state stuff. That could be linked on the state pages themselves. I think what z is talking about is going to be the final fix for this kind of thing as the Wiki grows to be about more than just the events, it just hasn't been fully applied yet.

That being said, if you want to put together a Miscellaneous page you can go right ahead. I may have misunderstood what you meant...again.

Mmhm, I understand what you mean about clutter, but my fear is that the articles I mentioned aren't getting read because people simply don't know they're there. I'm not sure that creating a page with such articles listed on it would be the best solution, but somehow, those pages should be made more easily accessible.

i agree with you luo, you will have to know exactly what youre looking for, and some people dont even know those pages exist, and they could be really useful. so, a miscellaneous page actually would benefit users, and wouldn't neccesarily add to the clutter, but in a way it could.

Couldn't you just make an index page with all of the pages on the wiki in it?

I think that most "casual" users don't care about anything except the event pages for the things they compete in. Pages that are not related to event information are still good to have on the wiki, but they are not really vital to have on the front page.

If you string these 3 links together, here's what that would look like:
http://scioly.org/w/index.php?title=Spe ... ce_Academy
http://scioly.org/w/index.php?title=Spe ... d_Melville
http://scioly.org/w/index.php?title=Spe ... icus_major

That doesn't look like it would be useful.
