I actually disagree with your idea of how to be a good assassinator, space scientist: the point of these games is to have some smart fun, not to win. Nobody likes an assassinator who gives impossibly hard identity clues and no other hints as to their identity and it gets pretty boring and predictable if the sassy only targets officers.
On a more on-topic note, I guess we can assume that we have not yet protected the right person as the sassy responded but did not confirm our protects.
