in nc we can have up to five jv teams per school..... crazyyyy. my school has only ever had enough peeps 4 a jv team once, last year. Barbarically everyone who had been on the team in the past was varsity and everybody else was jv... 4 state we switched 3 peeeps out.

Well . . . I heard Paul Gelinas JHS in Eastern Long Island (NY) had 5 teams at Regionals (A, B, C, D, E). And they got to Nationals. (Their sister school RC Murphy had 3 teams and got 3rd in States.)Sunshine Ninja wrote:in nc we can have up to five jv teams per school..... crazyyyy. my school has only ever had enough peeps 4 a jv team once, last year. we don't go to invites...but im thinking if we are getting a new coach next year...i might be able to persuade him to take us to a *few* invites
but seriously, invites are pretty good for knowing what you need to study and such...

We take a test, usually only one or two people don't make the team. We may not have enough people for a team next year though, hopefully I can get some of my friends to join but they're more math people
We're gonna try to go to the JC Booth invitational next year if we can though. For some reason we didn't go last year (even though they're in the city right next to us).

Re: How does your school do tryouts for the competition team
Yeah, SO is really not that big in New Mexico, so our State competition has like 23 teams (1 per school) and Central NM Regionals has like 11 schools, a third to half of which have two teams. I don't know if you can only have two teams or if people just only have enough for two. We try to divide our teams up more or less evenly, even if they're both pretty shorthanded (10 people) and then recombine for State. State, too, isn't a whole lot of a competition - we won this year with usual results: we had 417 points, I think, 2nd had 411 or so, 3rd had 340 or so, and teams were in groups all the way down to last place, who got like 40 points. We've only lost state in 2001 and 2002, we've won every other year since the late 80s. The past few years, it's been real close between first and second for a few years, but the lack of other competition kinda sucks. We have no invitationals remotely close to us, so we only get Regionals to prepare for State, and so we're really trying to make SO more competitive here, but it doesn't seem to be working well
Academy div C SO. 23 wins, 2 losses all time at State. Best record in the nation.
