Yes, aim for nationals, but don't plan for it.

The issue is making that aim something everyone in you team will look at. It's great to have people who care on your team, but 15 people who care is why the powerhouse teams win.

Exactly...on my team, im the only one who places top 5 at state...on a team like New Trier, im sure half of the team if not all of the team places top 5 in at least one of their events. If the majority of your team doesn't really care about sci oly, and just considers it "another club on their college app" or something, aiming for nats is essentially pointless (don't try to refute this, unless you've single handedly succeeded in motivating the 14 other kids on your team to be just as hard working and dedicated as you, then you get the idea).
2011 Season Events~

Fossils (Regionals ~1st) (State ~6th)
Towers (Regionals ~1st) (State ~3rd)
Helicopter (Regionals -3rd gahhh) (State ~5th)
Wind Power (Regionals ~1st) (State ~3rd TIERED!)

Hooray for getting everything i wanted?

hmm... I would agree. It is far better to have every event in the top 15, than have a few in top 5 and everything else in the bottom 15. The only problem for my team is building at state... they ALWAYS go wrong.

Whats the best way to transport towers and other building events to the competitions?
Like nationals, state, and even regionals?

That question would go better in the Towers Forum

Actually, there was a thread for this last year that could offer some insight.

we flew last year and our coach along with our team trailer and principle left 2 days before us to take all the supplies up to Illinois.
the Nats site for Wisconsin is pretty cool, i like the colorful schedule :) and if i got everything i wanted and we had more time i could do an event per timeslot! that would never happen at a big competition though if my coach has any say in it :)
No matter what the experiment's result, there will always be someone eager to:(a) misinterpret it(b) fake it, or (c) believe it supports his own pet theory.

Most of the time its private transportation that your team decides on if they make nats

Our team last year had a couple of parents drive all the events up to IL
