Re: Flight Trimming
I know, which is why I want to do it. I'll see if I can pull of a split motor stick tomorrow, and if I can't, I'll build one the way I described above.

Re: Flight Trimming
My helicopter is 4.3g and im using 1.8g of rubber. Yet it is still not flying. I am following a basic design of a rotor on top and bottom. The bottom one is fixed to the frame. my wings are 18.5cm x 3.5cm. Any help or should i explain more?

Re: Flight Trimming
Wait, are ur rotors 18.5cm on each side, or a total of 18.5cm? Im assuming they are indeed 37 cm total, but just making sure.
Also, are your rotors oriented correctly? Since the rotors spin in opposite directions, they must be built so that one provides lift when spun CCW and the other when spun CW. CW = clockwise.

Re: Flight Trimming
yes its 18.5 on each side. also they are oriented in the correct way. my heli has a total weight of 6.1g. We just did some testing today and we got it to fly but only for around 25sec. I know that is not good. I just want to get over one min, even if other helicopters will beat us by a lot. Another thing is we are using an actual rubber band, getting us only 150 winds. It is 36cm long (when cut to form a line). I read that people are getting in the 1000. Should we look into getting the helicopter rubber to replace it with our rubber band? Will it make a significant difference?

Re: Flight Trimming
Yes you should invest in some helicopter rubber. I believe you will significantly improve your time to possibly over a minute.

Re: Flight Trimming
Yes. This is some of the best rubber you can get for indoor duration events.
I think 1/8 would be a good starting point. Maybe 1/2 pound?

Re: Flight Trimming
Also you could decrease the weight. 6.1 is too heavy compared to what it could/should be

Re: Flight Trimming
also... each wing is .3g for a total of 1.2g (in case you couldn't figure that out. Is that too heavy?

Re: Flight Trimming
Your rotors are only .6 grams each? How wide are they and what are they made of....it's surprising that your motor stick is so heavy.

Re: Flight Trimming
earlgray meant 6.1 including rubber (though the actual helicopter weight of 4.3 could use some fixing).Littleboy wrote:Also you could decrease the weight. 6.1 is too heavy compared to what it could/should be
Are you using a basswood motor stick or something? As long as you have the right dimensions, balsa wood is fine.earlgray wrote:also... each wing is .3g for a total of 1.2g (in case you couldn't figure that out. Is that too heavy?
And I know it's been said, but: get yourself some competition rubber! illusionist provided the best link, though in my opinion 1/4 lb should suffice.
