I disagree. This kind of thing can happen - see Churchill, Community, etc.
I agree with builderguy135 since COVID has been so impactful. A fair amount of schools (even teams that are historically extremely successful) are having trouble recruiting students since everything's online this year, as a big draw of Science Olympiad is travelling to competitions and working with partners in person. I expect schools in these situations would bounce back very strongly once COVID is less of a concern and competitions are largely in person.

Adi1008, I think this was well-said. The "bounce back" might not be quick/strong- this type of disruption to a program could have a multi-year impact on some schools, depending on how they are structured and what they are allowed/not allowed to do during this school year.

Rooting for MSJ to pull off an upset, but MTV seems likely at the current moment.
Mira Loma results should be interesting, even if neither (or only Mountain View) stacked.
