1. ID this specimen
2. What Lagerstätten can this specimen be found in?
3. Mult choice:
A. This specimen contains both xylem and phloem
B. This specimen contains only xylem
C. This specimen contains only phloem
D. This specimen contains neither xylem or phloem
4. This specimen does not contain lignin found in modern trees. How do these trees support themselves instead?
5. How may this specimen contributed to the Carboniferous Rainforest Collapse?

1. Lepidodendron
2. Mason Creek
3. A
4. The stability of the tree relied on strong outer bark.
5. Scale trees sequestered so much CO2 from the atmosphere that it caused a cooling climate which led to the extinction of the scale trees.

I believe that all vascular plants have xylem and phloem or else they couldn’t transport water and nutrients. Lepidodendron has secondary xylem but not secondary phloem.
