sophisSyo wrote: February 3rd, 2020, 1:55 am Perhaps you are thinking of scores from some time ago? We got 35 a couple years back, but while I've been in high school there's been a lot of Team A/Team B competition for top spots at regionals events and we were nowhere near that score. From my discussions with Team B people, often one or two questions made the difference for my events at regionals.

My coach and I did some research leading up to our own regionals this weekend checking out some of the top scores in its history, and yep in 2013 Syosset did get 37 points, but that was notably with 4 events dropped. (which is still exemplary)

I don’t know when they stopped dropping events in Nassau East, (ik in 2017 they dropped two, I’m pretty sure the last time Nassau West did it was 2017 lol) but 68 counting all 23 events is undoubtedly extremely impressive!
Ah dropped events, I'd forgotten about that happening. That would explain the lower historical scores.

I'll do long and in-depth predictions after UPenn where us, Syosset, FM, Ward, and Columbia will be competing, but for now, some super preliminary ones, in no particular alphabetical order:

1-3: Columbia, Fayetteville-Manlius, Ward Melville
4-7: Kellenberg, Mount Academy, Stuyvesant, Syosset
8-12: Brooklyn Tech, Great Neck South, Pittsford Sutherland, Staten Island Tech, Townsend Harris

I got top 7 right last year, maybe I can get top 10 this year? We'll see lol :?:

Thanks, and yeah about the 37 points...I do remember when they used to drop events but I think they stopped it two years ago like you said.

im gonna make a tier based prediction now and make full predictions post soup

teams that will probably actually make nats
------
Columbia- clear frontrunner
Ward Melville- solid all year

idk what to call this
------
FM- I could see them winning states or dropping significantly. idk

teams that have a plausible but unlikely shot of nationals. I would like to point out this group feels much stronger then in recent years.
------
mount academy- very impressive regionals/columbia but not much more data. I wouldn't be surprised if they're much stronger then we expected
stuyvesant- very impressive LISO, and pretty good MIT but also lost to ward by 1 place in both
kellenberg- surprisingly very strong this year, with good to great performances everywhere. Centerville esp was very impressive with their consistency
syosset- only here because of a relatively good MIT performance, otherwise the invite season has been very mediocre. If the builds and widi can stop bombing then syo has a chance but before then lol no.

teams that I don't think have a shot at nationals but I think are top 10
------
GNS- good this season but not great. Pretty impressive PUSO performance but not enough to bump them up a tier, I think kellenberg has replaced them in that tier but idk.
Staten Island Tech- I think they've unstacked this yr and their stacked scores are crazy op, but again not enough to bump them up

teams that have a good chance at top 10
------
Townsend Harris- really strong at regionals but fell short of both stuy and staten island
Pittsford Sutherland- More unlikely but hey they were really strong last year, and there's no data to the contrary
Brooklyn Technical- Prob more unlikely but hey NYC is kinda really stacked
