Re: 2010 National Tournament: University of Illinois
It really isn't a shame for the national teams. New York and Pennsylvania are very competitive states so teams have to work very hard if they expect to qualify for nationals. As a result, the teams that do make nationals have worked very hard to win their state and are in a good position to contend at nationals. Having the competition close to nationals also minimizes the chance that a team will slack off between States and Nationals which means that New York and Pennsylvania (and other good states with late State tournaments) will almost always have good showings at nationals. The only one at a disadvantage might be the 3rd place teams from those states who work incredibly hard but still don't go to nationals. But ultimately, learning a little bit extra isn't a bad thing.
When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

unfortunately, thats not always the case. for building events, esp like bridge, they have like....2 weeks to build a completely new bridge to compete at a tournament multiple times harder than states... its a surprise teams from ny and penn still do so well at nats, maybe its because ny is the most competitive and penn is up there too... =/Paradox21 wrote:It really isn't a shame for the national teams. Thing is, at NY and Penn states the competition is pretty close to nats level. So 2 weeks is plenty of time to build another bridge, and everything else you already prepared up to nats levels before hand.swimmmm wrote:unfortunately, thats not always the case. for building events, esp like bridge, they have like....2 weeks to build a completely new bridge to compete at a tournament multiple times harder than states... its a surprise teams from ny and penn still do so well at nats, maybe its because ny is the most competitive and penn is up there too... =/Paradox21 wrote:It really isn't a shame for the national teams. I don't want to start the debate about most competitive state again, but at this point Ohio is definitely the most competitive because they're so deep.swimmmm wrote:its a surprise teams from ny and penn still do so well at nats, maybe its because ny is the most competitive and penn is up there too... =/
