Try this program robotman so kindly put on here. It's pretty good for someone trying to learn the basics, but for this event, the best way to learn the basics is like robotman said above and to read the coach's manual. Not to be religious or offend anyone but it is like the Bible or (insert what religious book you'd like) for Road Scholar. Also, can you be more specific about what you mean by "the whole road scholar thing".

Ok i was not very clear and am sorry
First decide if you want to download it now or later if you want to download it later click the second link
Now since you probobaly want to download in now
right click on the First link and a dialog with a few options will come up click on the save link and it should start downloading
After it is downloaded Un compress it for vista it requires opening the file and allog the top there is a button that says
extract all files for XP it should either auto extract when you click it or you right click extract (please correct me if i am wrong)
After you extract it go to the un compressed file open it and look for
topo 32 and click it it is a .exe file so it will auto start
If topo 32 does not work there is also a file called topo 16 you can try that if topo32 does not work
If you have problem post and I or someone else will attemp to help or even Better join
Chat and you can get help faster

Bearing... correct me if I'm wrong, I've taken a three-week vacation from Road Scholar but I believe it is the angle that say, a river is running on, for example, b/w 0 and 90 degrees, with the direction it is running on either side. That's probably not the best way to explain it, so here's an example:
There is a river that runs past a school, going exactly 45 degrees NW- (just use a protractor). You would write that as N 45 degrees W (using the degrees symbol of course). Always put N or S first, then the angle in degrees, minutes and seconds, then E or W.
I didn't explain it that well, so try to get a second opinion. Or, hey, read the [wiki][/wiki]. It's in there too.

Practice tests are big at our school. Get to know your protractor. Celebrate topographic maps' 125th birthday. And make sure you have lots and lots of notes.
Okay, maybe not the birthday part, but there are always lots of options of how to study. It's basically like any other event. It's all up to you.

Bad news, I'm reading through the rules again. The rules state "UTM should be written for State and national exams". That dosn't mean we won't see them at regionals. So be prepared.
