Hill's Criteria are in place to establish a cause and effect relationship

Strength of Association - relationship is clear and risk estimate is high
Consistency - observation of association must be repeatable in different populations at different times Specificity - a single cause produces a specific effect
Alternative Explanations - consideration of multiple hypotheses before making conclusions about whether an association is causal or not Temporality - cause/exposure must precede the effect/outcome
Dose-Response Relationship - an increasing amount of exposure increases the risk
Biological Plausibility - the association agrees with currently accepted understanding of biological and pathological processes
Experimental Evidence - the condition can be altered, either prevented or accelerated, by an appropriate experimental process Coherence - the association should be compatible with existing theory and knowledge, including knowledge of past cases and epidemiological studies

Correct! Your turn. :)

Since WhatScience? didn't post a question I'm going to ask a few.

1. List the 6 members/steps of the chain of transmission model.
2. List the 4 necessary components of any case definition.
3. Name the 3 levels of case definitions.
4. What is the ELISA test?
5. List the food production chain.
6. A host can be infected, susceptible, or _______.
7. What is a null hypothesis?
8. What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 error?

Please try to answer all of them, but if you can't it's ok. :)

1. agent, reservoir, portal of exit, mode of transmission, portal of entry, host
2. personal characteristics, time (period) when the disease occurred, location, clinical symptoms
3. suspected/possible, probable, confirmed
4. I've definitely heard of this but I can't recall what it is :?
5. production, processing, distribution, preparation
6. immune
7. A hypothesis that expresses no association or statistical significance
8. type one is rejecting a null hypothesis when it was true, and type two is accepting a null hypothesis when it was false

All are correct! Sorry, I forgot to reply. An ELISA test detects and measures antibodies in your blood. ;)

1. What is the difference between surveillance and syndromic surveillance?
2. Give an example of Berkson's bias.

Sorry, I don't have many questions :D
