Rule 3g says mechanical relays are permited.
I don't think it's classified as a mechanical relay because it had an integrated circuit... not sure though

Yeah the timer is an IC so it wouldn't be allowed.

Can someone please explain what to do for the charts. Does the x axis have to be time and y axis be distance? Can we use one of the given variables (time, distance)and something else, or do we have to use both? Also can someone make an example graph?
What did the thermometer say to the graduated cylinder?

The rules say the graphs/tables have to show the "relationship between time and distance for various device configurations" so I would assume that yes, you have to use both time and distance as variables.

If you need to make a chart for time vs something else, nobody is going to stop you. I just don't know how gradeable it is.

Edit: Actually, I'm rereading the scoring section and I think you can have just time or distance and something else as a different variable (their example was load). Sorry, this post isn't actually helpful because I'm not sure anymore, but I don't know how to delete it.

Thanks for the help I am also doing thermodynamics and for their charts example, they used the x and y axis from the rules but they had a third variable in the legend/key. So, I will do the same thing for this.

Wikepedia's definition of an IC is that it has a "chip"in it. This does not have one. It uses a potentiometer to adjust time which should make it legal.

If you look at the spec sheet for that relay (http://www.qualitymobilevideo.com/downl ... cument.pdf) note it describes it as a 'solid-state timing circuit'. I'm 99% positive based upon that and closely examining the pictures on the website that it includes some IC components. The potentiometer is likely just connected to the IC underneath the big coil seen in the picture. The fact that it has a green LED that lights up while counting down is further evidence that there are some special electronic components inside it.

Thank you for the clarification.

I gladly stand corrected. I did go to that website, but it only gave me the cover page, thus my error.
