yea if an appeal works what they usually do is give out medals but not count it in the final standings

Depends on your tournament I guess...in my region they will spend the time to calculate it correctly.

And the judges aren't supposed to have the final say in an appeal.

However, my region has rejected one of our appeals with quite a ridiculous reason...so the process isn't foolproof by any means.

It all depends on how lenient your supervisor wants to be.

This just proves why trials shouldn't be events that count, because sometimes the rules aren't as clear to everyone like the "real" events.

That is true.. Somehow, my team's magnets were the same polarity as the track so they did not need to be switched, but we did go very slowly because we use a Pittsco track and it has much stronger magnets. Our estimate was completely off, and we took like 17 sec, instead of our usual which is like 2 or 3 sec.

fmtiger124 wrote: you can make an appeal under almost any condidtion as long as yuo havn't removed ur car from impound. Just talk to your coaches-or if they saw it, have them go and get an appeal form. For Scrambler we appealed along with Eagle Hill(we lost) because Wellwoods coaches saw it and knew the same thing happend to Eagle Hill so we talked to them and the coaches decided to get a form and appeal.
Oh ok. so your coach is the one that makes the appeal and they have to fill out a form, and it doesn't have to be made the same instance the situation happens. Ok thanks for clearing that up.

True, I guess if we're talking about trials that may not count for score anyway, it may be different.

In NY where trials are the same as regular events, I'd hope the appeals would be handled correctly, as in any other event.

There's certain rules for appeals as well. For example, they must be made within an hour of the end of the event. If the event was a building event that required impound, you usually cannot remove your device from impound if you wish to appeal.

Hopefully you'll never have to appeal anything though. I didn't have a good experience with an appeal.

I know that at the Indiana state competition, various appeals were made for Trajectory (and actually a couple other events as well..sort of a bad competition). In most events, they ruled that if all teams had to compete under the same conditions, there's no need for the event to be thrown out, but if conditions were different for different teams it needed to be thrown out (Trajectory). It was made such that medals were rewarded for it, but it did not count for the score (actually changed which team went to nationals).

However, in the case of Car of Tomorrow, the issue wasn't just that teams had polarity problems (which was presumably the same conditions for all teams)- there was also the problem of the very weak magnets, which, although they were the same for all the teams, completely destroyed the point of the estimation part of the event by rendering nearly everyone's estimates useless.
