Re: Kansas 2011
Part of the reason it is waning is the state keeps cutting school budgets and there just isn't the money. Personally I would still coach even if I didn't get paid for it but many people won't.FullMetalMaple wrote:Science Olympiad seems to be big in NC, whereas it seems to be waning in Kansas. The Eviscerator wrote:Your state competitions are like our regionals. Re: Kansas 2011
Kansas still seems like a pretty intense state... though I suppose each state is competitive in its own way you know? Just because a state has a ton of teams doesn't necessarily mean they're all good, it just depends I suppose. Anyway, congratulations to you all! I know for some it's not what you hoped but trust me i've been there.... (cough*last year*cough)

Re: Kansas 2011
That's true. And it's fine - this is my second year in Science Olympiad and my first on the state team, so I'm just happy I managed to medal, haha. Thank you.Starapollo1 wrote:Kansas still seems like a pretty intense state... though I suppose each state is competitive in its own way you know? That could be a good reason. As far as I know, the budget cuts don't affect all schools, though.3slh9 wrote:Part of the reason it is waning is the state keeps cutting school budgets and there just isn't the money. Re: Kansas 2011
They may not affect private schools but they majorly affect public schools. The majority of schools that competed last year that didn't compete this year were public schools. If we can't get that number back up then we will continue only having one team from Kansas going to nationals.

Re: Kansas 2011
Wow, I just reread my post and thought I sounded really stuck-up because I go to a private school. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like that. I know they do affect public schools; I just didn't think they seriously affected all of them. And I agree - it would be nice to get more schools competing again.3slh9 wrote:They may not affect private schools but they majorly affect public schools. Re: Kansas 2011
I could be wrong, but i'm fairly certain you guys have more teams than Indiana. We usually get two seeds but our tournament director informed us yeaterday that we will probably only going to have one next year. The national board is starting to really cut down on the number of teams at nationals which to me is a little disheartening, it makes getting there all the more exciting but at the same time I feel as if the two seeds are justified for most states. On the other hand it is clear to see why a lot of schools don't do S.O., It isn't cheap and it usually takes a few years to get a good team started, and it certainly doesn't help budgets being cut everywhere left and right!3slh9 wrote:They may not affect private schools but they majorly affect public schools. Re: Kansas 2011
They're not really cutting down as much as other states are coming in... Arkansas and DC have spots this year, for example.
