Hovercraft B/C: Propellor rule clarification

The SciOly rules state that “The Vehicle May have up to two motors each rotating 1 propellor/impeller.”

I “found” a commercial propellor which looked like 2 propellors attached together (2 3-rotor props combined into 1 6-rotor propellor) by the centers. Would this still be allowed by SciOly Rules?

To clarify, the combined 6-rotor propellor rotates as a single unit - that means the 3-rotor propellors rotate together.

I couldn’t find a picture online, but it looks something like that except the propellors are attached to each other by the part that sits on the axle...

The forums aren't a place for rules clarification (the event supervisor doesn't have to follow what we say on here), and to be safe, you should submit a Rules FAQ.

That said, I don't think it would be allowed.

Spinning fast and having a sharp edge does not necessarily make a blade best for the hovercaft. Thought realistically, I would expect you are right about the problem,
How big is your hole? Also I might consider a different material for the skirt

I did a no skirt hovercraft last year, and the ES told me I probably wouldn't get away with it if my team went to Nationals, as it only hovered a millimeter or two off the ground (last year there were no penny rolls). There's no way a device like that would be able to hold one, or any penny rolls because the levitation is already minimal. Save yourself some trouble and build a skirt.

I have a wall skirt. It is using half of a relatively light flower pot. It is a super easy to put on and pretty reliable, but it was a pain to cut.

Hey guys, quick question! Is it necessary for us to have a skirt (or a bag/plastic underneath the body/base)? My hovercraft did have a skirt before, but I find that it went 1/2 as fast without it for some reason. Please me let me since I don't want to get tiered for not having one. ):

You don't have to, but I highly advise you do. It goes slower because your skirt has a lot more friction. Generally, adding a skirt increases the friction, which is why your craft is slower. I'd recommend either refine your skirt, or simply buy a more powerful back fan. The second option in my experience is the most effective.

In the case that you have to demonstrate that your hovercraft levitates (likely by pushing the hovercraft down), you will likely have a problem as the height it levitates at would be really small without a skirt. Generally, a properly built skirt should help your hovercraft move because it is flexible and can deal with more uneven surfaces (granted, to a limited extent)

Believe me, building a skirt takes way less time than trying to figure out how to levitate it without one.
