Couldn't agree more, the competition is increasing every year and will continue to increase in the future throughout not only Illinois, but at Nationals as well.Skink wrote:Sorry, bro, 'nosedived' was a bit hyperbolic. They're/You're not at the level of competition they were back in the day. Recall that the jump from 3rd to 2nd place is a huge one (needless to say the difference between 4th or 5th and 2nd overall is incredible). I know you guys have been trying hard! I've spoken to both coaches and parents from your team about the matter recently. I could be wrong, but my analysis is that, a few years back, Marie Murphy was the IL favorite. And, if we go from National results in the past few years, they are. Here's the kicker. DW is improving, not getting worse. In other words, snagging those top spots is difficult because, as time passes in IL, more strong teams surface. S&A have climbed the ladder recently! It's entirely possible I'm completely wrong and South never changed; the competition just got steeper across the board. Which is it? Couldn't tell ya.

Re: Illinois 2013
Yeah, there's definitely been a huge change in the competition. Heck, I think it was 2 years ago that Marie Murphy took 2nd at Nationals! Daniel Wright is definitely up there too, and so is South. South just had a few events that didn't do so well this year, and the past 2 as well. That's my spiel on that. S&A is definitely getting up there too. And then there are schools that excel at one specific event, like Greyslake with towers (not sure what happened with their boomilever this year, though). I can't say that much about Division C, because I'm new, but from what I've seen here, I'm going to go out on a whim and say 4 and 5 are mostly up for grabs, behind NT, Stevenson, and IMSA. To sum it all up...Illinois is not an easy state, let's put it that way.

I did! Most of my favorite events are out of rotation, but I'd like to help out if they need me. Whatever he has in mind, I hope many of you audition/sign-up because it sounds like more manpower will make whatever the project is better overall.

Re: Illinois 2013
I just did. I felt a bit bad because it seems like some events that I've done/had experience with won't be there next year. Willing to do whatever needs to be done, howeverXJcwolfyX wrote:Did anyone else do this?

Yes. Our team is pretty good, and we are basically all initiative driven. The coaches are just chauffeurs.

Yeah, Optics is out...that would have been something I could have helped on. Or maybe Forestry/Entomology even, because they boil down to the same principle; learning how to ID stuffSkink wrote:Man, I love Opticstuftedtitmouse12 wrote:I just did.
