wow
The stations always seem to be shorter than they really should be.
And for some reason, I never like to put down a random answer. I always like to put one genus that's probably in the same phylum as the specimen. I guess little chance is better than no chance.
You know they give you points for stating the obvious, like writing the kingdom, phylum, class, or order for ones you don't know

Sorry packer-backer but it is kinda stupid to put down "Chuck Norris"(why not Arnold Schwarzenegger  ) rather than write the phylum or class

packerbacker, what school and/or region are you from?
WoodCreek Junior High, new school that just began this year and we just finished the Galveston Region. We got 1st place their and now we're headed to Texas State Competition.

I was asking packerbacker because he's from Michigan.
Good luck at states!

same...if they ask me to id a rock, which im pretty bad at...i usually just put "shale" since its pretty common...

ive never heard of that...or i just havent read my field guide in depth yet, but off the top of my head, i cant see why. ones an invertebrate, the others a vertebrate. different phyla. (same kingdom ;) ) both are marine...they both live in the paleozoic era...though it kinda depends on which fish your talking about (osteichthyan, chondrichthyan, armored, etc.)...

at my states, the stations were sooo easy. we finished a station, double checked, and spent like a minute just sitting there, preparing to go to the next station...i thought it was going to be so hard... :) but its good to be over-prepared. :D

If you have a book, the easiest way to find things quick is to put tabs where the major phylla start. It helped out soooo much!!

i just wrote down the page number and tabbed the index. i was thinking of doing what you were suggesting but since i forgot to make a "must do" list, i forgot to do that :| the easiest way though (if anyone is willing to do it) is to take apart your field guide and just stick the pages in your binder. ;)

That's a pretty good idea. I would have never thought of that.
