It must be canceled or postponed until after May 2jaah5211 wrote: ↑March 10th, 2020, 3:12 pmWait, is the source saying that if the event includes more than 50 people it will be canceled?
Wait so state's in May?pikachu4919 wrote: ↑March 10th, 2020, 3:02 pm Well I just got an email from Mitch Daniels (Purdue’s president) that our classes are being moved online right after spring break (which is next week) and that all university-sponsored events including student organization ones are being suspended until May. It’s only a matter of time till an announcement on whether state is postponed or entirely cancelled will come.
We don’t know yet. All we know is that Purdue is not welcoming visitors for events until may 2. It depends on the PurdueSciOly board if state gets rescheduled. It’s their choice to make now.hmmma wrote: ↑March 10th, 2020, 3:17 pmWait so state's in May?pikachu4919 wrote: ↑March 10th, 2020, 3:02 pm Well I just got an email from Mitch Daniels (Purdue’s president) that our classes are being moved online right after spring break (which is next week) and that all university-sponsored events including student organization ones are being suspended until May. Hmm... could the competition theoretically be moved to a nearby school? Like logistically it would be a nightmare, I'm sure, but in theory could it happen? (I gotta hold onto some hope...)CPScienceDude wrote: ↑March 10th, 2020, 3:20 pmWe don’t know yet. All we know is that Purdue is not welcoming visitors for events until may 2. - from the Purdue updateA faculty or staff member who believes that they have an essential business reason to hold an event can request a waiver through their unit leader (dean, vice provost, vice president, etc.), but again, the expectation is such waivers will be rare.
yes, someone needs to make sure someone on their board sees this.l0lit wrote: ↑March 10th, 2020, 3:25 pm- from the Purdue updateA faculty or staff member who believes that they have an essential business reason to hold an event can request a waiver through their unit leader (dean, vice provost, vice president, etc.), but again, the expectation is such waivers will be rare.
If we can convince them an event is extremely important, it could be possible to work around this. I would suggest using techniques that are allowing Northern California and New Jersey to hold their state tournaments, such as: no awards ceremony, supervisors and staff with face masks, ensuring arms length distance between participants, hand sanitizer available at all gathering locations etc. With these changes, it may be possible to pull this off.
I would encourage INSO and the Purdue board to explore these options at least before canceling entirely. Postponing states would also work really well.
Yeah, it’s been real. There are possible hosting places though, I.e places that have held invitationals. (RP, Whiting, Valparaiso, and I could see Carmel).CPScienceDude wrote: ↑March 10th, 2020, 3:27 pmyes, someone needs to make sure someone on their board sees this.l0lit wrote: ↑March 10th, 2020, 3:25 pm- from the Purdue updateA faculty or staff member who believes that they have an essential business reason to hold an event can request a waiver through their unit leader (dean, vice provost, vice president, etc.), but again, the expectation is such waivers will be rare.

yeah there are other places. There is probably no chance Carmel could host it because hosting a tournament months in advance at Carmel is a complicated process. This is only a couple of weeks notice.boomifailure wrote: ↑March 10th, 2020, 3:33 pmYeah, it’s been real. There are possible hosting places though, I.e places that have held invitationals.
