But I think I would still have to say that competition is harder as some schools are "working harder" and doing better....

How hard to these teams work for Scioly? I know of course that for Stevenson/New Trier/IMSA it's incredible how much they work but maybe anyone from Hinsdale Central, Naperville North, Lyons, Libertyville or CLC care to share how much effort they put in? From my own experience we don't try very hard until the week prior to any competition...

I would think that getting a headstart on SO in general would be good, but also "consistent studying" over the whole year? Studying can also be replaced with building. But I would think time is a huge factor...

Yes, I was more trying to understand how seriously they work towards this because it is in our school viewed as an extracurricular and not much more. Meetings don't have much substance to them either

I'm not sure. Maybe SO is emphasized more? For instance, if there was a sport that had practice the same time as SO, would SO have more priority? Would a member of SO at those schools do fewer extracurriculars? Your guess is as good as mine

Hinsdale Central has the 'South effect'. They're always in the upper tier but never climb higher. It must be hard. I've never spoken to anyone from that team about their program, but I'm interested.
LT is where the State director works. I'm pretty sure she doesn't coach that team, but I'm sure having her there for advising helps. I'm just guessing.
Libertyville was aiming high this season and were preparing even longer than me (and I start my program early).
CLC has always been 'pretty good'. I don't know what else to say there.

The commonalities among these teams seem to be dedicated individuals and access to invitationals. Anyways, the C results were fascinating considering we saw New Trier fall behind. I...wanna say that's unprecedented, at least in recent memory.

Btw, congrats! St. Charles East did very well for their first foray into AA, even though you prob were AA in middle school.

SO is an extracurricular and little more at most places. I've heard rumors on this site of SO classes, but I've never spoken to any IL peeps about that.
School size helps. A larger pool of kids to pick from is what puts most public schools ahead of places like North Park or Benet.

Also, I know in Division B, coaching makes a huge difference. Do some schools have more access to information than others, such as their coach being a previous test writer/event supervisor/studied-in-college in an certain event affect their results?

Agreeing with Skink though, it takes dedicated members for a team to do well.
