well im a musician so with the songbirds with very complex and varied songs i just listen to a lot of diff ones and pay attention less to the notes but more to the pitch and tone. is it basically one pitch or is it up and down? is it staccato-ish or flute-like legato-ish? is it harsh and scratchy or is it flowing smooth? idk how you would catch these things if you werent a musician... maybe others use different techniques...crazy77 wrote:How are you guys learning the song for the yellow-breasted chat? When i look it up online, i get so many variations, i'm sure because it has many differet songs, but its still annoying. How would you recognize one of its songs if you heard it? Any tips?

If you want to you can memorize them, but you don't have to. You're allowed to bring the bird list and a field guide to the competition.smarticle13 wrote:for ornithology, are you supposed to remember the scientific name of each bird?

Re: Ornithology B/C
erm...we're re-doing ours too. the ones previously were about 2-3 mm by and inch, no joke. that was before when two other people were on the event >.<
also, im just wondering if the hyphens really matter. is it okay to write american golden plover instead of american golden-plover?

Re: Ornithology B/C
yeah, that was about how big my tabs were at first too. needless to say, they completely ripped and fell apart. I was thinking of using those little post it notes...i dont know if theyre too big though. i saw someone else with them, so hopefully theyre allowed...
im not sure, but i dont see why the hyphens would matter. just in case though, cuz ANYTHING can get you disqualified, put them in...

Re: Ornithology B/C
they should be. but how are you able to see all of them? wouldnt they overlap each other so much that it makes it really hard to find what youre looking for?
