I believe it was jander that posted a PDF at the start of the season about how to bend balsa tubes around arrow shafts (small diameter) I considered using it for a twin small tube boom, but it seemed complicated and I wasn't sure of the benefit.

One reason why I assumed using smaller tubes wouldn't be beneficial was because the smaller diameter leads to a lower moment of inertia against the buckling force. Also, it's harder to bend wood around a smaller diameter.

Our Boomilevers are failing at the tension arm...it just breaks off without damaging any other part of the boomilever. It breaks off at the dowel rod (what we are using to mount the Boomilever). The tension arms are bass wood and the base is an I-beam. Suggestions for why this is happening and any solutions to try?

What glue are you using? There might not be enough surface area for superglue to be strong enough. If your base is really small either a) increase the glue area and see if it helps or b) try using gorilla glue (you've got to clamp it).

I am pretty sure we are using enough glue, but maybe we need to figure out a better way to get more surface area for the glue.

Can you post a picture, or describe the boomilever with more detail?

Heh, so amount of glue doesn't really change the strength of the bond, once the glue spreads out more glue can actually weaken the joint.

We are just one day away and need clarifications on the following questions:
1. Does the event provide the testing wall and J bolts as well as bucket?
2. Do we need to provide the chain that would be hooked to eye bolt on loading block?
3. Do they look at the type of goggles you wear? If so where can you buy them to meet the safety requirements?
Want to thank all of those who have helped us in our first attempt this year!
