Re: Fossils

I think the disparity in possible tests is brutal - just take a look at the 2 Regional tests from this year on the Virginia site. The rules do state what can be included - and it's practically EVERYTHING about Fossils except 'the kitchen sink'! The ID part of any test is only supposed to be 51%, which was a surprise to me, a lot of the test can be fairly specific *facts*.

A mock test on the wiki would be a great addition - thanks in advance croman74 for doing all the work to put it together.

My test was basically all identification. Once you identified it, you had to answer a few questions about it.

Finished making the test. It's on the wiki. It's not great, but at least it's useful. If you guys want, I could add some questions about each fossil. Feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

it's a good test, but the invertebrates and plants were really easy. (maybe thats just me because im an invertebrate person). i got most of them right without any reference material. the vertebrates...aside from the smilodon and the archaeopteryx and bothriolepis...were slightly more challenging (im not a vertebrate person). but i liked how you didn't just put an entire skeleton on there because that was what i was used to, and its good to see some variation to what im used to. all in all, good test, but could be harder :D (you might want to try putting footprints or something) :)

Thanks for the input. I know it wasn't that hard, I just wanted to make a test. If I have time, I'll make another, harder test.

Fossils is a good event, very interesting too. Our team didn't do so well prob because of all the memorizing they did and not other information.

Some folks apparently go by kind of code words, like "Oatmeal" is supposed to mean one kind, etc. Maybe one of the shining stars will post their memory-aids :D . Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaase?..... I have a hard time with this one.
