gh wrote:Our regionals has all the events, but we were REQUIRED to select seven (I think) events that won't get counted. For those events, you can either enter them and be ranked (though your rank won't count, and everybody below you get shifted up), or just omit them. It would be wise to still enter the events, since we have states in March, and you'd better be ready by the time regionals are around. I wonder if they'll have Junkyard in C this year.

Anyways, I figure the really good teams would probably enter the trial events at regionals, since those teams have good members, and fewer other teams compete in trials. I don't make those decisions for my team, so I wouldn't know.
At our regionals, they let alternates participate in the omitted events...they don't get officially ranked, but it's still good practice especially if they want to make the team next year. Gives the alternates something to do instead of sit around all day, plus they are better prepared to compete in that event next year.

The ohio ones are okay. I've only competed at the akronu ones though. Scrambler, Trajectory,Towers were all badly run but Trajectory was the worst. Any other comments for Ohio?

PA Central Eastern is run pretty well: there aren't any major problems that I know of. One year, the guy who was scheduled to run Astronomy never showed up, but that's about it. Our team (Exeter) manages to make it to States (nearly) every year (the B team is iffy this year) but NEVER is competitive. Unfortunately.

My regionals comp (NY Metropolitan) is run reasonably well, but it could definitely use a lot of improvement. The impounding for many events is not strictly enough enforced. There isn't even a caution tape or something set up to delimit the impound area. I have had more than one case where somebody was able to tamper with my robots and/or other devices, sometimes to devasting effect.

Annoys the bejesus out of me. :|

I sometimes get the feeling that there's school favoritism, but that's not really something concrete for me make an accusation on. Well, with any luck, we'll win regionals this year.
