I would recommend using graphing software (I prefer Excel). Type in as many data points as you are able to test then graph distance vs mass at each height or distance vs height for each mass. You can use the graphs to extrapolate the data points you weren't able to test.I've found that you don't necessarily need an equation and that, if you do decide to use one, everyone's bungee is unique and thus requires a different equation.

hey I was just wondering how close on average people were getting. Just to see if how close we were getting is competitive or whatever...thanks

We had an invitational today and we got 8 cm and 4 cm...2nd place

A few centimeters is definitely competitive at most if not all competitions. First place at our regionals was a sum of 3.3 cm (2 cm and 1.3 cm) and second place was 5.6 cm (2.6 and 3 cm if I'm remembering correctly). These were two teams that were not even close to any other teams though (third place was a sum of like 40 cm). First place at the Twin Tiers Invitational was a sum of about 2 cm.

at your competitions, do they have you drop the top of the bottle at the given height, or the bottom of the bottle at the given height?
what makes sense to me is to do the bottom of the bottle at the given height, as they are measuring to the bottom of the bottle, but at your invitational on last Saturday they did the top of the bottle at the given height (3 meters) it doesn't have that much of an effect (only like 4 centimeters) but it did give us a lower score and I'd like to know for regionals what other people have experienced

I interpreted the rules as the top of the bottle because it says in 2b that "...and a top anchoring system/release platform with a release mechanism (e.g. a clamp) to attach to the top end of the elastic cord...", which I thought meant that there was a clamp that attached to the part of the cord right above the bottle. Would be useful to have rules clarification of course, because that part is extremely unclear in my opinion.

NE Kansas Regional Bungee 1st place 12cm combined (1 cm + 11 cm)

Missouri Region 3 Bungee 1st place 16.5cm combined (8 cm + 8.5 cm)

Both regionals had drops from different heights.

Ne Kansas & Missouri Region 3 judges used Coach's view app where drops can be reviewed frame by frame. With zoom capability, distance from surface plane can be viewed on with the mounted tape measure behind the surface plane all the way up to drop apparatus.
