Re: Wanted Science Olympiad Events
First off i apologizing for beining so harsh.
Math is very important in science. and i guess especially for physics, and other thing that involve equations or formuals.
I was just saying that i belive that the events should have some science realated aspect to them. In robots you learn about the electronics behind them and stuff like that. There shouldn't be an event that just has algebra questions on it, that's what i mean. You may have to use algebra in science, but there shouldn't be an event with just algebra on it. The event should connect math skills to science or technology in some way.

Re: Wanted Science Olympiad Events
i hate it when states or regions do not do some of the actual events. i mean like what if your region took away the 5 events your team was the best at and the top teams were the worst at. That would greatly effect your team. Luckily my state does every event but i know in division C they dont run a few events. This year they are running rocks and minerals as an ACTUAL event instead of a trial.volleyballchic_101 wrote:i love mystery arcitecture but they took it away from our state competition

Best tasting cookie wins!!!!
More realistically...
Some sort of Medical Science Event
not Anatomy...more real life application stuff
That would be cooooool!
(and bring back ROCKS AND MINS

Re: Wanted Science Olympiad Events
Wouldn't having a completely math event in SO be superfluous? To solve all the problems within the chem, physics, and some bio (disease/ecol/a bit of cell) events, you need to have a strong background in algebra and geometry (mainly trig) anyways.
Fermi, like most other events, was more about process skills (problem solving, round about thinking, estimation) than the math. Yeah, math is important, but math in science is more of a tool for solving problems and coming up with conclusions. And a test that was just solving math problems would, in my opinion, go against this idea.

I'd love to see Reach 4 the Stars as a C event and have them take out Astronomy.
