Re: Season 2013 - Site suggestions
It might also be a good idea to ban those people that seem set on trolling the forum with no real purpose other than to confuse well-meaning users. But that's just my opinion; it's not something that we'd actually do or anything.

I totally agree with Gemini. The signatures allow people to show their achievements in Scioly and the majority of people like using them. And you can turn them off.
If they annoy you, then stop complaining and turn them off.

What would be an example of such obnoxious, spacious signatures? I mean, personally, I find the long resumes obnoxious, but that is by no means reason to enforce more of a limit than there already is. Nobody is using their sig abusively even if they ways I and you decide to use the space differ.

Then turn it off. I'm on a site with the same phpBB format as this, with signatures that are huge. I've never had a problem.3nv1r0nm3ntal ch3m wrote:
Kinda spammy text-wall, dont you think? It makes it rather difficult to navigate through pages when have of the page is signatures of dozens of people.
Your signature, for example, is very short and simple, but I think it's more obnoxious than that of anyone else on here. The problem here seems to be content, not length, because you seem to be the only one having a problem with lengthy signatures. I don't have a problem with anyone's signature, but yours is by far the most annoying. Whether or not you're satirizing the whole idea of signatures or just being irritating doesn't matter.

Adding a "Thanks" button would be a nice touch. (Not necessarily a rating button, but just a button to show that a specific post is particularly helpful)

I think this would be nice too! Not like a Facebook "like," but more like the thumbs-up for helpful ratings on Amazon, for example. Good idea!asquaredplusb wrote:Adding a "Thanks" button would be a nice touch. (Not necessarily a rating button, but just a button to show that a specific post is particularly helpful)

If this idea is implemented, I think the thumbs-up would have to be private (i.e. not publicly visible). They tried a public thumbs-up system on College Confidential a couple months ago, and it fell completely flat on its face because a small cohort of users essentially "traded" thumbs-up, turning the system into a big joke where a few users had an enormous number of thumbs-up and most users had none. In essence, the most aggressive users got thumbs-up, not necessarily the most helpful users.caseyotis wrote:I think this would be nice too! That's what I was envisioning, actually.Luo wrote:If this idea is implemented, I think the thumbs-up would have to be private (i.e. not publicly visible). I'd think that most people on here would be more mature than that, but... It could happen. But what is the use of private thumbs-ups? Who would be able to see it?

Re: Season 2013 - Site suggestions
The thumbs up would not be recorded for the user in some sort of star rating displayed on the profile. Additionally, I have seen it implemented effectively on some forums, such as Art of Problem Solving.Luo wrote: If this idea is implemented, I think the thumbs-up would have to be private (i.e. not publicly visible).
