formulas like velocity = Wavelength(l) x Frequency(f) and Frequency= 1/period. they require you to do multiplication and division. You need a calc for that.
And you need to be able to do snells law.

I posted my binder from last year on the Wiki.
As for calculator, it's possible to do the test with (sadly) a 1 dollar calculator from Wal-Mart.
Snell's Law isn't required for the tests I took, but it was really helpful. The one test asked me to draw the approximate direction of refraction given the relative density of the two media, and obviously, it isn't easy to calculate something without an exact number.

snells law? never heard of it.. :D

but i can tell you my binder was tiny! all we used were equations, color charts and a chart on uses of radio waves and the like

It's probably going to be an objective test with a lot of math. Or, they could have you do stations. (But it'll still be objective.)

I'm smart and didn't bring a calculator to mine  It totally crossed my mind. There was only one station that involved a lot of math though so i was fine.

Yeah, the states test, in my opinion was easier than the regionals test. I forgot that they don't count work, so I spent 15 minutes writing down the work for all the answers and left 15 minutes early a regionals. And still got 1st.

i forgot how to use a compass at states (we had to make an earthquake map) (it was worth half the test) we were so confused we just guess. our epicenter became the whole state of iowa :D
