What are some good designs?
Since nobody else has chimed in: welcome, thanks for being a part of the forums. There are lots of tips and designs out their, but it's really not easy for anyone to respond to this type of generic question. You should check out the Storm wiki first: http://scioly.org/wiki/Storm_the_Castle which should help you. Also check out the official Storm event webpage: http://soinc.org/storm_the_castle_b

Re: Storm the Castle B
Is there any advantage to having the axle offset not directly in line with the rest off the arm in a FAT, say, above or below the arm.
_______.___ if the under scores represent the arm with the dot representing an offset axle.
----------.---- or the same here with the dashes representing the arm with the dot being the axle.
Does this help/hurt in any way and does it comply with the energy rule do you think?
Also, what are other people using for wheels on FATs?
Again also, what would be considered a good short arm to long arm to sling length ratio on a FAT?

To your question about offset: I'm not sure if there is an advantage or disadvantage, but it could definitely violate the energy rule, especially if the offset axle is below the arm. It might not, though, if you have a very slight offset (like mine from last year).Friedoyster3 wrote:Is there any advantage to having the axle offset not directly in line with the rest off the arm in a FAT, say, above or below the arm.

Wheels: bearings work pretty well because of their light weight and little resistance to spinning. Many people use roller-blade wheels, but these are somewhat heavy, so it takes more energy to spin and move them along the track, and therefore are not quite as efficient as bearings.
Ratio: Should be somewhere between 1:2:2 and 1:2:2.5. Your own testing may say differently though.
2011 Nationals: 3rd place Storm the Castle, 4th place Meteorology, 27th place Battery Buggy, 29th place Bottle Rocket

Re: Storm the Castle B
Yeah cool I figured that. Plus I'm only thinking of putting it offset by something like 1.5cm just because of the way I want to do the axle requires that.A-Ro wrote:To your question about offset: I'm not sure if there is an advantage or disadvantage, but it could definitely violate the energy rule, especially if the offset axle is below the arm.
