It's not that I wouldn't like the event, I just don't think I have good odds to get the event for when the competitions matter.

In my experience with Remote Sensing, the test really depends on the event supervisor. One might focus on satellites, another on interpreting images, and another might do more on the ecological aspect. I've seen tests, whether in competition or just practice ones, that focus on all three. I don't think they should focus on ecology that much, since there IS another event called Ecology. There may be a few questions but it's mostly more of an overview than something that has to be focused on. Usually it's mostly on satellites, satellite imagery, and interpreting images. Basically all that Celeste mentioned.

Then again, if a supervisor really likes ecology, then that may be the main part of their test. So I can say what's the norm, but not what will happen every time. So you have to be competent in all parts of it.

Yeah, at nationals 2 years ago, the even was around 95% satellites. My partner had covered the satellites and I had covered the ecology, so I answered the few questions pertaining to ecology and did the tie breaker graph while my partner did the rest of the test. He ended up guessing on a lot because some information wasn't on our sheets. The event was really poorly written; we had barely prepared and had won 3rd. While I'm glad I medalled, I honestly don't think we deserved it.

And at states the same year, the event was heavy on ecology, and even weather. We weren't expecting a weather event, but my partner had done meteorology before and we managed to medal in that too (6th). So yeah, the event can vary greatly depending on the writer.

Huh. So in short, prepare for everything- absolutely everything- because you never know what will show up.

Hence my earlier statement "This is impossible to study for".

Of course it's possible to study for it. From what I've seen, it looks about 100 times easier to study for than say, Pentathlon or Experimental Design (the latter being slightly easier to study for)

Well, yes, but it's a pigeon of a lot harder to study for than, say, Fossils or Birds.

Perhaps. Honestly, I think I'll enjoy studying this event. It's a lot easier to study for something if you enjoy it. I mean, I loved earthquakes and volcanoes but didn't do Dynamic Planet at all, didn't know that much about them, and in just thirty days of studying I was able to get third at state.

I think I'll enjoy it too. Sounds very interesting.

My team and I were wondering which satellites are orbiting the Earth right now. All the research we've done was made in 1957...
