The more wheels, the more friction, the better. You don't need six separate motors, but having extra wheels on each axle will help a lot.

least wheels that it can balance and not get knocked over with... 4 at least, since a cow statue is harder to push over than a person...

Most of them don't get knocked over, they aren't tall enough and most are to heavy/low to the ground to get knocked over. The force you need would probably risk driving yourself right out of the ring or driving straight onto your opponents car so they can carry you out of the ring.

i am not in NY but this sounds awesome! its like the one show that Grant Imahara won (i think i spelled his name wrong) Robot Wars i think, but div C in California also get really lame trial events..

It is not like that at all. It is a small ring, with small bots, and a really lousy crowd control system.
But it is really awesome.

Its a trial event for nationals, its not part of the team score but you still get medals and everything else

This event has driven my partner and I (and several alternates) out of our minds. I hope everyone does well this weekend in Division B competition!
Also, a helpful tip. Do not stop immediately after hitting the tennis ball out of the ring. Turn right away. My partner always releases the throttle after tapping the ball.
