Re: Astronomy C
where the years the topic was galaxies was 2001-2003 in div c?
also, the rules state "...answers relating to normal galaxies and starbust galaxies, including..."
does that mean that we should not be tested on active galactic nucleus galaxies (active galaxies)?
what about seyfert, Quasar, Blazarm, BL Lac, OVV, or radio galaxies?

Re: Astronomy C
I am having trouble finding a website that explains how to calculate the stars distance when given the magnitude. Can anyone help me out?

Re: Astronomy C
I would assume that means we shouldn't be tested on active galaxies, but because many events don't always stick exactly to the rules, I'm gonna study them just in case...smartkid222 wrote:also, the rules state "...answers relating to normal galaxies and starbust galaxies, including..."

Re: Astronomy C
The Athens test was disappointing since most of the DSO's were from last years event. For those who didn't do astro last year (including me), it would've been very difficult identifying the DSO's and their characteristics. Any other thoughts?

Re: Astronomy C
That was very annoying... I thought the test was pretty good other than this. Although there should have been a lot more on galaxies. I lucked out though, as my partner hadn't done much to his binder from last year, and his old DSO sheets were in theremanutd94 wrote:The Athens test was disappointing since most of the DSO's were from last years event. Re: Astronomy C
I was very lucky I left all my stuff from last year on my laptop. I would have been very annoyed if I was a new person who was only studying for this year's rules.
Also, what is the deal with the IDs of things that werent DSOs in the past 5 years at least?

Re: Astronomy C
The rules clearly say only normal and starbursts, but I suspected that event supervisors won't understand the difference between starbursts and active and read about them. Good thing too because last week's invitational (Kenston, OH) had about 15 questions on active galaxies.pjgscioisamazing wrote:I would assume that means we shouldn't be tested on active galaxies, but because many events don't always stick exactly to the rules, I'm gonna study them just in case...smartkid222 wrote:also, the rules state "...answers relating to normal galaxies and starbust galaxies, including..."

Re: Astronomy C
out of all the events I have done, Astronomy has been the one with the most "creative" interpretation of the rules, so if it can be tangentially related to what is written on the sheet, I suggest you know it.

And if it isn't tangentially related to what is written, it still might be on the test.Glacierguy1 wrote:out of all the events I have done, Astronomy has been the one with the most "creative" interpretation of the rules, so if it can be tangentially related to what is written on the sheet, I suggest you know it.
