I think the intent is to prevent teams from dropping the golf ball directly onto one of the mousetraps.
Since a golf ball is 43mm in diameter, I would judge that as long as you drop so the central point is within the imaginary 43mm cylinder that reaches to infinity, you have met the requirement.

(I am not, however, the event supervisor. If you want to be sure, submit a clarification)

In the rules it says "Standered, unmodified golf ball" and "Unmodified mouse traps" Dose this mean we can't attach anything to it (like a string).

No, you can attach stuff to it, just you cant change the mousetrap itself ie. replace the spring to make it super sensitive.

One of the biggest challenges will be to get it operate 5 seconds before the first trap goes off. Here is a quick design I made, if anyone has improvments feel free to add them:
Image
First, when the golfball is droped it sets off a pully to set of the north trap. Second, when the golfball hits the ground, it falls onto a ramp that rolls onto the second trap. Seting it off. Thrid, the second trap has a rope attachted to it. When the trap is set off, it will set of the 3rd trap. When the third trap is set of, it sets of a bunch of dominos which end up hitting the 4th trap. What do you think?

I know, but, now that I think about it, it may be the way to waste 5 seconds and get the bounus points. I may have revise my plans for this a little.

Will they be giving us a "mystery item"? in the wiki it says yes, but I haven't been able to find the "mystery item" rule anywhere else.

The wiki is still based on last year's C division event.

I'll probably change it for B division this weekend.

No, I don't think so. I think you can put something like cardboard underneath them, but not on a pillar or something.
Clarifications, anyone?
