Re: What does your school think of your SO team?
My school supports athletics more than anything else at my school. In our yearbook, 31 of 250 pages were dedicated to sports and SO didn't even get a mention anywhere. It really frustrated me.
Most kids regard us as nerds (I always thank them sincerely when they do this, they don't know how to react), but most teachers think we're really smart. However, on the first day back at school after state this year, my marketing teacher (who is also the DECA advisor) asked me what my medals were for (we always wear our medals the first day back). I told her it was for SO and she didn't even know what that was; I had to explain it to her entirely. After my explanation, she thought DECA was cooler. I'm in DECA too and Science Olympiad is so, so much better than DECA. If I had to choose between the two, SO would win everytime.

Here nearly everybody in SO is in band. And not any old band. Marching band. (I'm in Colorguard instead. Which is like marching band for non-marching-band people.) But everybody else (except maybe two or three people) is.

Everyone at my school thinks that the SO team, and other academic teams like debate, are nerdy, but that we do nerdy in a cooler way than usual. There are even some really cool kids who are on the team because they rock at science as well as more popular things. Everyone is supportive when we win competitions, and they also tolerate our bragging.

lols...at states this year, one of our coaches gotta...i think it was a text message that said "good luck at the science fair!" everyone was cracking up so bad
and my coach said "well, close enough"
but ppl do think were nerds (im proud of it) or geeks.
thats ok though...cuz other ppl are actually interested and say "oh wait. what place did you get again?" or "nice job!"

Re: What does your school think of your SO team?
Last year, nobody at school knew about science olympiad. But then all of the kids on the last year's team moved up to high school and we got a totally new team. Our parent involvement is huge and before every competition, there will be posters around the school that say stuff like, "Good luck BDJH science olympiad"
In fact, there are so many kids that want to try out for science olympiad next year, my coach said that all returning members have to try out.
Finally, science olympiad isn't an unknown club at our school. kids know who we are and surprisingly, they "respect" us....
