I'd really only worry about hepatitis B and possibly C

Re: Microbe Mission B/C
I would definitely worry about HAV and HEV as well, and there might be conceptual stuff they could ask about HDV. Study the whole set._deltaV wrote:I'd really only worry about hepatitis B and possibly C

Anybody using this textbook from OpenStax? It's free, which is definitely a plus, but I don't see anything on microscopy.

Re: Microbe Mission B/C
Hey all, I plan on trying microbe mission for a second time this year haha. In terms of a note sheet, would anyone recommend a picture based note sheet? The one I have now I'm not entirely sure about. My first invitational is coming up on the 18th and I want to be prepped for it haha.
Right now, my sheet has columns for each disease that specifies size, shape, small drawing, gram (if bacteria), cycle (if virus), cause, treatment, symptoms, other names, and size. I also have a section for the other misc parts of the rules (such as spores vs cysts, etc.)
Thanks for any help in advance!!!

Re: Microbe Mission B/C
That sounds pretty good, but make sure that you don't prioritize diseases too much. Most tests are only partially about diseases, maybe 25% at most.bramblefang222 wrote:Hey all, I plan on trying microbe mission for a second time this year haha. Re: Microbe Mission B/C
Microbe Mission is more microbiology than pathology, so as Alex said, you might want to study microbial theory and microbio more than you study diseases, which is not the main focus of the event. I'd say the closest this event gets to pathology is clinical microbiology, and even then it's still microbio.Alex-RCHS wrote:That sounds pretty good, but make sure that you don't prioritize diseases too much. Re: Microbe Mission B/C
Hello I am in microbe mission this year and I was wondering if we needed to study the endosymbiotic theory.

Yes. See rule 3.d.iii, "and their possible microbial origin."SciolyYay wrote:Hello I am in microbe mission this year and I was wondering if we needed to study the endosymbiotic theory.

Re: Microbe Mission B/C
I distinctly remember last year there was an invitational where the test had a section on viral eukaryogenesis. However, you should definitely know the endosymbiotic theory and evidence that proves it true. Other hypotheses are less important, but still good to know.Alex-RCHS wrote:Yes. Does anyone know a good way to go about the Gram staining? Will we actually have to do Gram stains?
