Or, as a cheaper alternative, by careful sanding, you may be able to achieve similar results...

Just be very very careful since superglue won't fill those gaps if it's not quite round and you won't achieve the right effect. If you're going to do you're own it might be best to find a wood lathe and be careful (the balsa might be hard to work).

Mhmm.. i havem't done it for a tube boomilever as I have never made one, but I did try it out for the base this year and it worked out pretty well. It probably wouldn't need the amount of care needed for something like what is being described..

Yeah, the base is easy, our B team did that, but the issue with a plug in a tube is that it has to fit very snug in the tube so the glue can bond (superglue doesn't fill gaps well) and if there's a place where it doesn't bond that's where the stress will build up (since spots around it have force applied to them and it doesn't, think shearing) and it'll weaken your structure.

Mine would be around 1100, but that was last year. You may want to go through the thread, others' scores are posted here. To look at historical scores, you can go into the archives from the index to the 2013 boomilever page to the ongoing scores topic.

I suggest you read this year's thread and the end of last year's thread, which has invaluable information of making tubes. Or, if you feel lazy, http://www.parmodels.com/Techniques_and ... 0Stick.pdf

I am attempting to build a tube boomilever for the first time. Does anyone know if people typically have an entirely hollow tube, or do they put in pieces of wood at the ends of the tube? Also, for building the part of the tube to hold the loading block, i've been looking through the blog and I don't understand how a single hole will fit the loading block. Are we allowed to unhook the hook on the loading block and thread it through the boomilever? Thanks in advance

Hey guys so states is coming up. For my regionals boom, I used all purple CA glue and then gorilla glue in the base. Where would it be beneficial to use blue CA?

Also, what woods have people had success with in their bases? I tried using a quarter inch piece of bass in front of some balsa in the back, but that broke after ~5kg, so we stuck with a small piece of pine. Obviously, that's pretty heavy.

One more thing. How does a compression tube boom compare to the standard? One big question I had was how the loading block was mounted and the competitiveness of such a design. Also, does anyone have any pictures? I can only find one.
