It was just identified as a "piece of a leg" so we tried to generalize the type of dinosaur from that, then got the diet. I'm pretty sure we settled on herbivore.

I would guess it would've been a bird-hipped dinosaur. For ornithiscians, they're all herbivores. But for lizard-hipped (saurischians) they could be theropods (carnivores) or sauropods (herbivores). I don't see another way to figure it out from just leg bones, so even if I didn't know about the hip structures, then I would put herbivore. On the other hand, if the hip structure looked like a saurischian then I have no clue what to do.

If was a saurischian, your best bet would be carnivore because that's what most of them are.

There is also the possibility that the event supervisor didn't know what he was doing and picked a sample which he had in his collection without anything defining unless you had outside information. Don't dwell on it too much.

this is kinda why i like invertebrates...theyre so easy! the only thing i didnt expect on the test was half a...i believe it was a blastoid. everything else was so easy because they were all invertebrates except for one osteichthyan, and two plants :D no dinos...or for that matter...a fraction of a bone of a dino

Fish are really easy though. There are only like 3 or 4 all you have to know and they are really different.

Are you serious!! They asked you the kingdom of Plants!!! They really shouldn't have had that question the test, it's just to easy!! A 1st grader could have answered that question with ease!!!

Plants are okay, but in my opinion, there aren't enough differences between Annularia and Calamites.
